The Medicare Part A and Part B premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance amounts for 2022 as well as the 2022 Medicare Part D income-related monthly adjustment amounts were made public by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on November 12, 2021.
Premium and Deductible for Medicare Part B
The following services are covered by Medicare Part B but are not covered by Medicare Part A: physician services, outpatient hospital services, some home health services, durable medical equipment, and a few other medical and health services.
The Social Security Act establishes the annual premium, deductible, and coinsurance rates for Medicare Part B. Medicare Part B members’ typical monthly premium will rise to $170.10 in 2022 from $148.50 in 2021, a $21.60 increase. All Medicare Part B beneficiaries must pay a $233 deductible each year.

Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amounts for Medicare Part B
Medicare Part A Deductible and Premium
Inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, hospice, inpatient rehabilitation, and some home health care services are all covered by Medicare Part A. Since they have worked for at least 40 consecutive quarters in Medicare-covered employment, about 99 percent of Medicare recipients do not pay a Part A premium.
Inpatient hospital deductible for Medicare Part A that patients must pay if admitted to the hospital will rise by $72 to $1,556 in 2022 from $1,484 in 2021. The beneficiaries’ share of expenses for the first 60 days of Medicare-supported inpatient hospital care during a benefit period is covered by the Part A inpatient hospital deductible.
For the 61st through 90th days of a hospitalization in a benefit period in 2022, beneficiaries must pay a coinsurance sum of $389 per day ($371 in 2021), and $778 per day for lifetime reserve days ($742 in 2021). The daily coinsurance for extended care services for clients residing in skilled nursing facilities will be $194.50 in 2022 (compared to 185.50 in 2021).
Individuals with disabilities and enrollees age 65 and older with less than 40 quarters of coverage pay a monthly cost to voluntarily enroll in Medicare Part A. They can also access the same through Kantime Medicare A reduced monthly premium rate of $274 in 2022, an increase of $15 from 2021, is available to those who have at least 30 quarters of coverage or who are married to someone who has at least 30 quarters of coverage. The whole payment, which will be $499 per month in 2022—an rise of $28 from 2021—will be paid by certain uninsured elderly people who have less than 30 quarters of coverage and certain disabled people who have used up all previous entitlements.
Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amounts for Medicare Part D
The Part D monthly premium for a beneficiary is determined by his or her income as of 2011. Approximately 8% of Medicare Part D beneficiaries are subject to these income-based monthly adjustment levels. These people will pay both their Part D premium and the income-related monthly adjustment amount. The percentage of Part D premiums paid directly to the plan (about two thirds) and those withheld from Social Security benefits (the remaining one third) varies from plan to plan.
